The TIMS Programme

The TIMS programme is a regionally coordinated response to address TB and related illnesses amongst mineworkers, ex-mineworkers and their families and immediate communities. Its major goal is to contribute towards the reduction of the TB burden in these key populations in the mining sector in Southern African countries.

Select Research was commissioned to conduct a population-based study to assess the Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices (KAP) on TB, HIV and silicosis amongst key populations that contribute to TB adherence, prevention and care-seeking behaviours. The KAP study was conducted in peri-mining and labour-sending areas in the 10 Southern African countries.

Evaluation of Social Marketing on Demand and Supply for Condoms in Urban and Rural, Zimbabwe. Baseline and Midline study targeted at male and female adults aged between 18 and 49 years residing in rural and urban Zimbabwe. The primary aim of the Experimental study was to evaluate how Condom Social Marketing (CSM) impacts demand and supply for condoms in Zimbabwe.

The evaluation compared intervention and control areas to determine the effectiveness of a comprehensive CSM approach (as compared to a basic approach) on the following primary outcomes: a) increase in PP condom sales volumes and b) increase in public sector condom distribution. It also determined the effectiveness of a comprehensive CSM approach.
